It’s All About Perception
Nowadays it is for us all too common - and even repetitive - to see so many people publishing on social media, a torrent of images depicting each and every thing that happens in their daily lives. Youtubers and Influencers exploit the reality, and their egos, while fantasizing it or making a profit in the online marketing industry, thus establishing fashions and trends, sometimes very silly. Those who surpass those frivolities and egocentric searches, turn their eyes into a more refined and sensitive instrument that get to grasp the energy of a city, its people and the harmony of its internal orders as a society. The education of the person, the preservation of principles transmitted from the family tend to develop artistic values, and concurrence of them, while walking the streets of a city, it is what makes worth the talent and the ability to choose an instant, capture it through the lens, while strolling among cultures and traces of a coexistence, sometimes the image manages to project a time in layers, and that is just the way the lens of Thomas Guerrero gets to capture a multicultural city like Victoria, in British Columbia, Canada.
"...It is the quiet, secret aspects of a city that are most important to understanding it. Those little places that you only find after you have spent some time walking aimlessly around and maybe cocking your head to the side to see from a different angle. Over time, the banal everyday sights can be unlocked and seen anew...
...Through my photography of cities, I try to capture that perspective that was always in front of us, simply never seen. I take photos both digitally and on film. My most recent exhibition, Walkways I, was shown at the Koffi Gallery in Victoria in September and October. This exhibit focused on the secret passages that run through downtown Victoria, Canada. The photos selected for display in Cowry Studio attempt to represent my work in three photos"
